Gothstrike's Return Part 7
Gothstrike regained consciousness. There were three people around her. The doorman from Paudraics stood close by, her intimidating visage slightly marred by a stunningly beautiful body. The alien had ridges along her forehead and her teeth were sharp and pointed.
Standing next to the doorman was the blue-skinned alien she remembered from the scene at Paudraic's. She had a frown on her face as she looked down at Gothstrike. Across from them, on the other side of Gothstrike, stood a man she knew all too well. Officer Harrison looked down at Gothstrike.
The officer spoke "We need to stop meeting like this. You are lucky today Gothstrike," he sneered as he said her name, "No one has decided to press charges. This woman," he gestured at the blue-skinned alien "has vouched for your innocence, and after your target and her employer came in and saw you, they also decided to drop the charges."
Gothstrike's ears were still ringing from the woman's scream. She nodded and said "Then
Gothstrike's Return Part 3
Gothstrike stood vigil, watching Paudraic's. She had never been in the place, but knew full well that it was a den of inequity, and one frequented by some of the movers and shakers in Angel Falls. She watched the clientele enter and leave, hoping to catch a glimpse of someone who could give her answers.
Her cell phone started to vibrate, and she looked at the display. It was Detective Stewart, one of her contacts in the AFPD. She answered the phone. "Hello Detective."
The detective responded "Gothstrike, I checked into the background of the criminal you captured. He is a known hit-man. I got the warrant to check his accounts, but there has been no major deposit in weeks. We have no idea who hired him, or where he is staying. He must have received cash for the job."
Gothstrike frowned in frustration. Whoever hired him was careful to hide his or her tracks. "Thanks Detective. I'll let you know of any developments." She closed her phone and studied a person walking out of Paudric's

Gothstrike stood in her room. She was already dressed in her hero's outfit, her face-paint was on. She was staring at the staff on the wall. Smiling, she picked it up. It felt good in her hands. Spinning it, she thought about the good they would do together. The people they will save. Gothstrike walked slowly to the door of her room. It was time to get back into fight. The question was, how bad have things got in Angel Falls?
It was dark already, and Gothstrike was wandering around the Docks. Things have changed quite a bit. Crime seemed to be more organized. The usual inter-gang wars have lessened somewhat. Gothstrike heard that a group known as the Canadian Syndicate were responsible, but didn't know how strong the alliance among thieves was. She knew the docks well, and it felt familiar to get started there. She first looked in on the Bonecrushers, with Marrow having gone missing nearly a year

Gothstrike and Natell entered Guardian Hall. Gothstrike was using her staff to help balance herself. Her head was pounding, and she was having trouble focusing. She walked into the lab, and saw several Polygirls running around doing various things. Gothstrike smiled and said "Hey Poly. I've had one fuck of a day. I hope you have some news for me."
One of the Polygirls looked at Gothstrike and replied "Yeah, I do. Who's this?" she asked.
Gothstrike answered "This is Natell. She is one of the ladies at Paudraic's. She came to make sure I got home, and to help me figure out what's happening. She's psychic."
Polygirl raised her eyebrows "Psychic huh? Why do you need a psychic? Anyways, the phone belongs to a Father Michael Lebowitz, in Montreal. I've got QS looking into it. Also Angie is looking into things on the Angel Falls side of things."
Gothstrike groaned "You got a Tylenol or something? My head is pounding. I was set-up at Paudraic's. Some ex-military guys made it look like I paid t
Gothstrike's Return Part 4Mr. Untouchable walked out of the Police Station with his employer. As they headed down the steps he asked "So what's the next move?"
The man replied "You have the men I asked for?"
"Yes sir. I do. Your files never mentioned that Gothstrike could project energy blasts. It caught me completely by surprise."
The man replied "I didn't know. She never really showed evidence of it. Of course, she usually only dealt with thugs and street crime, so she probably never really needed to use it."
Mr. Untouchable frowned "Well, you wanted me to get caught, I just figured I'd have to fake it. Why did you want me arrested in this? The police only have information on one of my identities. It doesn't seem like it will have much bearing."
His employer replied "I wanted a specific officer on your case. It's going to be a fun ride. Remember to get my man to Paudraic's by tomorrow. I want to make her nervous."
Mr. Untouchable frowned "Who? One of the dancers? Waitresses? You aren't giving me much to go on
Gothstrike's Return Part 10His footsteps echoed through the halls of the Angel Falls Memorial Hospital. He walked with purpose towards the room he knew the patient was in.
Private James McDermitt didn't like this assignment. Something just didn't seem right about it, but as a member of United States Armed Forces, he wasn't required to like, or even understand his assignment. He was required to do his duty.
He shifted the potted flowers to his other hand, they were heavier than he thought they would be. Must be a good ceramic pot he thought. He had inspected the plants before delivering them, even though he was told not to. There was nothing harmful he could see. There was no bomb or other device in the dirt or the plant.
Sighing, he turned the final corner. He saw a heavily muscled Asian woman sitting in a chair outside the room reading a magazine. Of course he knew who she was. You could not live in Angel Falls without knowing who Lin Li Wong was. The woman stood vigil outside the room of her teammate an
Gothstrike's Return Part 6Polygirl examined the phone in detail. It was a disposable phone, one that couldn't be traced. She easily hacked past the security protocols on it. It only received one call, and made two, all for the same number. She traced the number to Montreal. Obviously this had something to do with the Canadian Syndicate.
Polygirl smiled. Man she was good at this. One of her copies quickly rang the Angel Falls police department, while another called a contact in Montreal. Polygirl would find out who was after the Guardians.
"Angel Falls Police Department, Detective Angie speaking." Angie said as she answered the phone. Hearing the rushed, but familiar voice on the other end of the line. "Slow down Polygirl. The Canadian Syndicate was behind the attack on Gothstrike?"
She listened as Polygirl revealed the information from the phone. "Does Gordon know anything?" She asked the heroine. "Then you should ask. It might give us m
Gothstrike's Return Part 9Mr. Untouchable sat at the table with Thomas Maxwell. Paudraic's had returned to its normal hustle and bustle. The hubbub after Gothstrike attacked Powerwhine had died down. Maxwell handed Mr. Untouchable a suitcase. "This has your second payment, along with the instructions I need carried out. So far, everything is going according to plan. The media is beginning to question the attack here, and the police are beginning surveillance of Gothstrike.
Mr. Untouchable took the suitcase and said "Why are we doing things this way. Gothstrike is good, but I can take her down. Why go through all these hoops?"
Maxwell smiled "Because, if we just take her down, she becomes a martyr. The Guardians will just step in and continue the 'good fight'. We need to discredit them. We want the public to demand something be done about these so-called super-heroes."
Mr. Untouchable frowned "But the actions of the heroes are well-loved by the public. Despite her Soviet background, even the Soviet Superwoman is
Gothstrike's Return Part 11
Guardian Hall was silent. Gothstrike sat on the ground, tears in her eyes. She knew everything that happened. She could not control her actions, but she remembered every single one of them.
Polygirl was tending to the bruises on Gordon's body. He had quite a few after the fight. Natell sat in the corner, silent.
Gothstrike finally managed to speak "Gordon, I..." She paused, forcing down a fresh set of sobs "I am so sorry. I didn't know ... I couldn't control myself." She was at a loss for words. Nothing like this had ever happened to her. She was always in control. She depended on it. She had spent years training her body to react to every command she gave it. She had honed her reflexes to peak efficiency. All of that, taken away. She felt violated in a way that made her want to curl into a ball, to shut herself away from the world, so it would never happen again.
Gordon looked at Gothstrike with pity in his eyes. No, not quite pity. Understanding. "It's OK Gothstrike. I know what the
Teenage TaoismGiving birth is the closest I’d ever felt to dying.
Before that, my near death experiences had consisted only of my silent announcement of pregnancy—silent, being that my social media accounts were all deleted almost simultaneously and I never returned to school in the fall, saying without really saying that I had caught the malicious disease of “teenage pregnancy”. I’m sure the whisper spread in the hallways like the Bubonic Plague. That September, sitting at home on what would have been the first day of my senior year, I imagined friends I’d never talk to again saying “she was only seventeen, and so full of life!” at my absence in the cafeteria tables, as if they were attending my funeral instead of talking about me behind my back.
"Full of life," I had snorted then, folding a never ending stream of what had once been my own baby clothes. "Literally."
I walked around like a zombie for the months of my pregnancy, deciding t
